Why Is Nutrition Important?

It is important for us to have a good, balanced diet in order to live a healthy life. The foods that we eat provide our bodies with the energy, protein, essential fats, vitamins and minerals that we need in order to function properly. Healthy eating has also been shown to reduce the risk of obesity, cardiovascular disease and even certain types of cancers [1].

A recent study carried out by the National Diet and Nutrition Survey showed that only around 31% of the UK adult population met the recommended 5-A-Day guidelines [2], considering we get most of our vitamins and minerals from fresh fruit and vegetables this is a worrying statistic. With obesity on the rise it is important for us to get the right nutritional education to live the healthy, balanced lifestyle that is desired.
